Basic karate uniforms are usually made from a 50/50 blend of
cotton and polyester that allow the student to perform technical
maneuvers without being too obtrusive. More advanced students
may prefer a cotton suit because it will provide more breath-ability
and ventilation.
Karate uniforms come in different weights, depending on the level
of training. For example:
• Lightweight uniforms weigh around 6 oz and they’re
relatively cheap. This is the ideal uniform for the beginner.
• Medium weight means up to 10 oz. This is the standard
uniform because of its durability.
• Heavyweights can withstand grappling practices from advanced
students.
Well-fitting karate uniforms
are determined by the height of the student. Most uniforms
come in a complete set, including pants, a jacket, and a belt,
but people with disproportions can order each item separately.
For example, a person with shorter legs or wider shoulders may
have to purchase each individual article.
